5 minutes

What you'll need

Large toddler-safe blocks

Before you start

Comfortable interacting with a familiar caregiver

Best fit: either · calm energy · low caregiver effort · low mess

How to play

  1. Place one block.
  2. Offer the next turn.
  3. React together when the tower changes or falls.
Make it easier

Build side-by-side towers and copy each other.

Standard

Build a tower by adding one block each without correcting the result.

Extend it

Choose a shared goal such as tall, wide or a home for a toy.

What you might notice

Waiting, inviting and recovering together when it falls.

Keep it safe

Use intact solid blocks labelled for children under 3 with no foam, magnets or detachable decoration. Build below face height on the floor, stay within arm's reach, stop mouthing or throwing, and count and store every block.

Why it may be useful

Following your child's lead and responding to their signals may support warm, reciprocal interaction.

strong

Supports responsive interaction as a broad mechanism, not a claim that a single activity changes development.

How it works
  • Copy me, copy you

Copy one thing your child does, then offer a simple action for them to copy.

  • Rolling turns

Roll a soft ball back and forth with a clear pause for each turn.

  • Feelings mirror

Make gentle feeling faces together and name them without testing.
