Move to a familiar song and take turns giving gentle stop and go signals, with stopping treated as play rather than compliance practice.
Add three signals such as go, slow and freeze, then let the child invent one.
Notice how the child anticipates, leads and recovers when a signal is missed.
Use a clear, dry, level floor or ground area away from traffic, stairs, water and hard obstacles. Keep every challenge at floor level, supervise nearby, and let the child slow down or stop.
